Encouraging Wider Reading
Here are some ideas for encouraging wider reading.
- Talking to the children about the books they have read – from simple ‘did you enjoy this?’ at the counter, to making a special time when children can come in and tell staff about their reading . See the Scenario: Listening Well in the TRF section about Treating People Well.
- Booksharing tables – have a look at this Booksharing handbook from Essex (Word, 392kb)
- Encouraging parents to support their children in the challenge – an SRC parents’ leaflet (pdf, 775kb) is now available.
- Making displays of children’s reviews and pictures
The next section looks at how the Challenge can also be used in family reading.
